Possebon called up by Italian Under-20s

19 04 2009

italianpossebonBrazilian-born midfielder Rodrigo Possebon has been called into Under-20 coach Francesco Rocca’s squad for next week’s friendly with Germany.

In what is the most recent in a worldwide spate of Brazilians opting to take an alternative to trying to break into the Seleção squad, Possebon has chosen to act on his Italian heritage and accept the Azzurini’s call. It might, however, be harsh to level an accusation of disloyalty against Possebon, having been ignored at youth level so far by his native country, and with a strong lineage of Italian in his family, he may very much feel as Italian as he does Brazilian.

Possebon has been impressive this season, on the fringes of the first team squad before and after an injury affected the middle of his campaign, whilst being a constant impressive force in the Reserve team. You can read more on this story, as ever, at United Youth
