The Prospects

The criteria for a place on the list is as follows

– A player must be a teenager as of August 1st of the start of a season
– A player must not have had significant exposure to professional football. A handful of substitute appearances does not exclude a player, but a few starts does.
– A player does not become ineligible for the list during a season where he breaks into first-team/professional football. He will, however, graduate at the end of the campaign.
– A player cannot enter the list during the mid-season update if it’s because of exposure to professional football. An example of this is Tom Cleverley of Manchester United, who did not make the list in August of 2008, but then impressed at Leicester on loan. He will thus be a graduate in August 2009, and his accelerated progression at Leicester means his place here would be distorted compared to the other prospects.
– Lists will be published in August and January of a season.

He had played more first team football than the criteria allowed when the list was produced, so he’s not in. Rest assured he would have been otherwise 😀

I’ve just found this website and am really enjoying reading it so far. Excellent work piecing this list together and staying stringent to your own criteria.

Admittedly being slightly biased, Fulham being my club, but no Chris Smalling in this list after making his debut at the end of 08/09, regular in the reserves and earning a call up to u21’s?
