Jack Rodwell’s star continues to shine. This week he scored on his full England Under-21 debut as Germany and England played out a 1-1 draw to end the group stage of the European Championships, with both teams headed for the Semi-Finals.
England manager Stuart Pearce rotated his squad, giving starts to some who were yet to feature, and a first start at this level for Rodwell in defensive midfield. The Evertonian youngster impressed, and scored his first goal at this level with a nice header from a corner.
Rodwell spoke of his delight after the game, and how he now firmly considers himself established in the Three Lions’ changing room:
“On a personal note to get the goal was great”
“You could say I was the baby of the group when I came in but I think when I’m with them I’m kind of the man.
“We all get on well with each other”
“Stuart Pearce has been looking after me a lot, he’s an England legend and a great coach. He inspires a lot of players.
“To play in the white shirt of England is an honour and you give your all every time you step on the pitch”
Rodwell could feature in Friday evening’s Semi-Final against Sweden, which kicks off at 1800 CET.
