UEFA European Under-19 Championships Draw Made

18 06 2009

uefatrophyThe draw for July’s UEFA European Under-19 Championships has been made in the past few days and has presented the usual ‘group of death’. For more, read on.

The competition takes place in the Ukraine from July 21st to August 2nd and it will shape up like this;

Group A
Ukraine
Slovenia
England
Switzerland

Group B
France
Serbia
Turkey
Spain

There’s a clear disparity in the strengths of each group, with Spain – winners in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007 up against a tough French team and resolute outfits in Serbia and Turkey. England look strong in Group A and were impressive qualifiers, whilst Switzerland have been improving at youth level and their performance at the recent European Under-17 Championships will give them hope. Holders Germany failed to qualify, meaning there is an opportunity for someone else to take the glory this year.

footballprospects.com will carry full coverage of the tournament, starting with a preview in mid-July.
