Two games, two wins, and plenty of goals for England Under-19 strikers Nathan Delfouneso and Nile Ranger as Brian Eastick’s boys look set to progress to July’s European Under-19 Championships.
In a squad which heavily features members of the current top 50, it’s been Aston Villa hitman Delfouneso who has hit the headlines after two of England’s three Elite round matches. Despite playing wide and out of position, he scored twice against Slovakia in the closing stages to seal a 4-1 victory at Bradford. His goals game after Newcastle youngster Ranger had scored two of his own, to add to his goal in the 2-0 win over Bosnia at Doncaster a few days earlier. The two wins leave England needing just a point against Scotland at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane on Monday to secure their path through. The Auld Enemy derby will determine which team goes through, as Scotland can take the berth with a win of their own.
Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jason Steele has been captaining the side, which also features list entries Kieran Trippier, Matthew James, Dean Parrett, Jordan Spence, and Matthew Briggs. For all the latest news, see the England Under-19 page on TheFA.com.
