Less than a week after being named in Stuart Pearce’s final squad for the upcoming European Under-21 Championships in Sweden, Manchester United striker Daniel Welbeck has withdrawn from the party with a knee injury.
It’s a bitter blow for the 18 year-old, one of the youngest of Pearce’s call-ups, off the back of a fine breakthrough season at Old Trafford. However, after suffering defeat in Rome to Barcelona in the Champions League Final as a non-used squad player, Welbeck’s week got worse with news of a knee injury which will prevent him from joining up.
Meanwhile, Jack Rodwell was also named in the squad, which can be seen in full (provisional, without injury replacements) at TheFA.com.
